With nearly 15 years of topographic surveys conducted in the field and the start of a specific program of aerial reconnaissance of the area, it was possible to recognize trace the remains of public and private buildings in some central areas of the town and to define, with more precisely, the route of some roads, both within the urban grid and outside the line of the walls.
Through previous investigations had been identified for areas with a high concentration of archaeological material; following the aerial shots, which were visible in sharp traces, it was possible to relate these areas of archaeological materials with isolated buildings lined up along the roads.
Here it was decided to initiate archaeological research aiming in particular at checking the presence of some roads and buildings recognized within the blocks reconstructed in the field near the Via Latina, the famous Roman road that connected Rome with Capua and that , Aquinum crossing from West to East, the split into two halves.
Based on these various factors, the program of work for the 2009-2014 excavations at Aquinum led to the opening of exploratory essays as part of the ‘core area of the city. Teachers took part in the work of the Department of Cultural Heritage, doctoral, doctoral, specialist, postgraduate, graduate and undergraduate students of the Faculty of Cultural Heritage, University of Salento.
